Sexual Violence Hotline

YWCA Mohawk Valley Herkimer County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) serves as home base for a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) whose sole purpose is to serve child victims of sexual violence.

Our CAC staff includes a Program Director; a Master’s of Social Work level therapist; Emergency Advocates; a Law Enforcement Coordinator;  a Community Educator; and a team of trained, certified, On-Call Advocates who are available 24/7 by calling our hotline.

MDT Members include representatives from the Herkimer County District Attorney’s Office; Herkimer County Child Protective Services; YWCA MV child advocates; law enforcement officials; and medical and mental health services representatives.

The team works collaboratively to ensure the uniform handling of child sexual abuse cases. This team approach ensures that victims, ages 17 and under, are not re-traumatized by undergoing multiple interviews.

Onsite at our Ilion location, we offer a child-friendly medical examination room, a therapy room, a child-friendly interview room, and a child-friendly family waiting area. Everything done within the facility is done with the survivor and the survivor’s non-offending family members in mind.

Counseling is also available for sexual assault adult survivors
who were traumatized as children.
